Green Millennium 2002

The 2nd Vancouver Green Millennium Fashionshow

(What's New? April 2002)

Donated rubber clothing

For the second time we participated in the Vancouver Green Millennium Fashion Show. Showing only fashions that help reduce our impact on the planet and it's inhabitants.
This time we donated a hat, top, skirt and gauntlets to dress up a model for the show at April 22. Afterwards, most garments were auctioned and this year all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC.

The Goal

Our goal with the Green Millennium Fashion Show was to provide a platform for the important concept of consumer responsibility that would have mass media appeal.
An event like this is given that much more impact when the media see value in covering the story, and thus help get the message out to a larger audience.

MTV and Fairchild TV

This was achieved in a very big way when MTV did a story on our event, which they broadcasted nation-wide.
Furthermore, Fairchild TV, Canada's largest Chinese broadcaster, produced a segment on our event which was seen by Chinese Canadians across the country. This, more than anything, makes me satisfied with this year's event and very exciting about it's potential in the future.

Consumer Power

This event is all about 'Consumer Power' that is the power we as consumers in the richest countries in the world have to promote ethical business alternatives.
Whether it is human rights, animal rights, environmental issues or supporting local economies, it is the consumer who has the ultimate say. We cannot blame businesses or the governments who serve business interests for keeping production prices as low as possible, this is what business is all about.
Everything is done for our consumer money.

Sweatshops, pesticides,
genetically modified food

So when Canadian consumers tell the market that they do not want to buy clothes made in sweatshops in Hong Kong or Toronto, or that we don't want to eat food poisoned with chemical pesticides or genetically modified, then businesses will adapt.
'Consumer Power' means we all make a difference in the world every time we spend $20, so put your money where your heart and mind are.

And then maybe we can have a better future for all life.
